IFLA Metadata Newsletter – Call for contribution!

The IFLA Metadata Newsletter is a good way of keeping updated about metadata around the world and about the IFLA bibliographic sections.

Although conferences and in-person meetings have been cancelled or postponed the world over because of the COVID-19 pandemic, librarians in the IFLA Bibliography Section, Cataloguing Section, and Subject Analysis and Access Section still need to share information. Please consider contributing to the December 2020 issue of the IFLA Metadata Newsletter, jointly published by the trio of IFLA sections.

Do you have news from your region or institution? Have you attended an online event or are you planning to present one? Have you or your colleagues been able to complete a special project under our current extraordinary circumstances? Have you discovered an unexpected method to accomplish your work remotely or under lockdown? Please share your news, reports, stories, ideas, and advice with us by making a contribution to the IFLA Metadata Newsletter, including but not limited to:

  • National and regional news
  • Meeting reports
  • Standards news
  • New member introductions
  • Upcoming events

Because the IFLA Congress did not take place in person during August and many IFLA groups had only online meetings, it is especially important for us to share information at this time.

Past issues of the IFLA Metadata Newsletter, co-published by the Bibliography Section, the Cataloguing Section, and the Subject Analysis and Access Section.

The deadline for submissions is Monday, November 30, 2020.

New – IFLA Metadata Newsletter vol. 1 June 2015

During last year’s WLIC in Lyon there was a workshop on how sections may work together. One way of cooperating is of course through joint open sessions. Another suggestion (first raised at Bibliography´s SCI) is a joint newsletter. The officers of the sections focusing on universal bibliographic control found this idea very interesting and worth investigating. It was therefore decided that the newsletter editors of each section should study the feasibility of a joint communication channel, be it newsletter, blog or something else.

Rather than merely doing a feasibility study, the newsletter editors decided to join forces and publish a common newsletter. The result of our work is the first issue of the IFLA Metadata Newsletter. At this year’s WLIC, the Bibliography, Cataloguing and Classification & Indexing sections will discuss whether the IFLA Metadata Newsletter should replace our present communication channels.

Please give us feedback so we can have a fruitful discussion over this topic at the WLIC in Cape Town!
