[Information Monitoring] Library and Information Science | [Veille] Sciences de l’Information et des Bibliothèques

Dear friends of LIS,

This is our May review of the Information Monitoring we are doing on the Internet for the IFLA LTR section. We picked up three interesting items we’d like to present you, but there are much more in our daily monitoring, freely available on Diigo and Twitter ! And we are welcoming any new ressource, conference, call for papers or posters, and so on, that you might have found online that is not (yet) in our Monitoring !

Let’s begin with a new ressource for anyone working with or on open data. Open Data is essential in today’s world, especially in libraries, but it might be disarming if you’re new with it. That’s why the open data community published in 2012 a first version of the Open Data Handbbook, a widely translated (18 languages !) base of knowledge on any subject involving Open Data. A revised and enhanced version of this Handbook is about to be published: not only can it be very interesting for a data librarian, but also for civil servants, journalists, activists, developers, researchers, open data publishers and so much more !

Let’s travel now to Japan for a new project in a very different field. The Japanese-art Librarian (JAP) Project 2015 is about training japanese-art librarians from outside Japan. Selected participants from all over the world will be invited (travel expenses and accomodation covered) in Tokyo in November (November 16-27, 2015) to discover japanese art institution and exchange about their work (in Japanese or English). Call for application is open until July 31, 2015.
