EPrints selected for the IFLA repository

Dear Colleagues

Back in September, I told you about our plans for an IFLA repository and said that we were in the process of evaluating a number of systems with the aim to set up a repository and add papers for the WLIC 2013.  As you start to provide papers for this year’s conference, you may be wondering where we are:  I am delighted to tell you that following a tender procedure and an analysis of a number of systems, the Governing Board accepted the Working Group’s proposal to choose EPrints (http://www.eprints.org/) as our repository supplier. A contract has now been signed and IFLA HQ staff are working with EPrints to install the system.  We will send out the link to the new system as soon as possible to give you the opportunity to discover this new service.  But please bear in mind that it is ‘work in progress’ and will need your input as you prepare the papers for WLIC 2013.

What does this mean if you are submitting a paper?

If you are an author, we are asking you to provide your paper under a Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 (Unported) (CC-BY) License.  This license permits the widest possible dissemination and use of congress papers and ensures that you retain rights to your work.  IFLA will make available all accepted Papers through the IFLA repository under the terms of the CC-BY License.  (If you wish you may of course select an option with fewer restrictions such the CC0 Licence).

If you are a session coordinator, because we will be using the IFLA repository for storing and managing the conference papers, we will need your help this year in formatting the papers for your session (using the templates) and communicating directly with your own authors and presenters to ensure the data and papers for your session are accurate and complete.  We have already sent out some instructions to Officers, you will find them at http://www.ifla.org/files/assets/hq/officers/messages/2013-02-11.pdf and all the paperwork at http://www.ifla.org/officers-corner/key-documents#papers

Please help us to launch this repository by providing papers using the templates on the above pages.

As we work on the setup and parameters of the repository, we will provide updates.  See IFLA news http://www.ifla.org/node/7698 for today’s announcement.  More news will be posted as we make progress

I wish to thank the members of the repository group* for their input and support over the past two years and also all the IFLA members who have provided comments and advice.  Your experience and expertise have been – and will continue to be – essential.
