The following op-ed from the online forum Project Syndicate caught my eye today. If you haven’t heard of the site I recommend it for its thoughtful and well-written analysis of global economic and political issues written by eminent faculty.

The pun on the word “value” in the title is the key, particularly in light of the comparisons the author makes with the UN budget to those of state and local governments and Wall Street bonuses. Some of you may find these figures helpful when feeling the need, , as I sometimes do, to defend the UN and their work.
