UNESCO Global Survey on Internet Privacy and Freedom of Expression

The United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has recently released the Global Survey on Internet privacy and Freedom of Expression which assesses where privacy and freedom of expression support and/or compete with each other in different circumstances.  The book is described as a “useful reference tool containing up-to-date and sharp information on emerging issues relevant to both developed and developing countries.”  It explores threats to privacy that have developed through the Internet, international legal standards on privacy, UNESCO’s recommendations for better practice, as well as a helpful overview of the literature, background, and a review of  international and national policies and practices on privacy and freedom of expression on the Internet.  The book may be downloaded free of charge from the UNESCO Publications site.
