Call for Papers
Open Session for the Document Delivery and Resource Sharing Section

Theme: Strength in numbers: resource sharing in a networked global environment

The Document Delivery and Resource Sharing Section is organizing an Open Session during the 2015 WLIC in Cape Town, South Africa. We invite proposals for papers to be presented at a two hour programme which is scheduled to take place in Cape Town.

Objectives:

As the Lyon Declaration on Access to Information and Development has clearly stated, we strongly believe the access to information is a fundamental element to “improve people’s lives.” Libraries around the world are playing crucial role to provide people necessary access to information whenever they need. However, it is true that no library can collect all the resources their users need to access. Hence the resource sharing activities between the libraries become an indispensable tool to fill in the gaps and provide necessary access to our users.

We wish to use our Open Session during the WLIC as a venue to share information on the resource sharing practices throughout the world so that we can better serve our users in more efficient way. We believe a good resource sharing relations starts from information sharing among the colleagues. The subjects of presentation may include but not limited to the examples below;

  • Experiences of International Resource Sharing
  • New Areas of Collaboration and Library Consortia
  • Demonstrations of new technologies which are being developed within this area
  • Born digital material and resource sharing
  • Digital experiments in resource sharing: success and/or failure
  • Innovations in document delivery and resource sharing

Proposals should include:

  • An abstract of the paper consisting of approximately 350 words, including relevant URLs where necessary.
  • An attached summary of the author(s) details: (name, institution, email address and position) and a brief biographical statement of no more than 50 words.
  • Proposals should be submitted to Peter Bae at this email address: sbae@Princeton.edu no later than 6th, March 2015.
  • Selected presenters will be notified by the first week of April 2015.

Papers

Presenters will be expected to submit final versions of their papers (consisting of no more than ten pages on Microsoft Word, including an abstract) by 31st May 2015. Papers should be in English or in one of the official IFLA languages with an English translation attached. The language of the session will be English. Presenters will have 20-25 minutes at the programme to present their papers and time will be allocated at the end of the session for an open forum to allow for audience interaction.

Please note that the Programme Committee has no funds to assist prospective authors: abstracts should only be submitted on the understanding that the expenses of attending the IFLA Conference (including travel, expenses and conference fee) will be the responsibility of the author(s)/ presenter(s) of accepted papers.
