UNESCO to award literacy efforts

UNESCO is launching the call for nominations for the UNESCO International Literacy Prizes for 2013. The theme of this year is “Literacies for the 21st Century”.

UNESCO is committed to supporting effective literacy policies and programmes. To that effect, the Organization honours excellence and innovation in the field of literacy throughout the world. Every year, on the occasion of International Literacy Day (8 September), UNESCO awards the International Literacy Prizes to institutions, organizations and individuals whose efforts contribute to the promotion of dynamic literate societies.

Governments of Member States and Non-governmental Organizations in official partnership with UNESCO are invited to submit their nominations. The prizes consist of the UNESCO Confucius Prize for Literacy and UNESCO King Sejong Literacy Prize (funded by the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of Korea).

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS: 28 June 2013
